Today after school, my lovely friend Lilla and I went to a local cafe called Bookends. It’s tucked away on a breath taking terrace above Antioch University near downtown Santa Barbara. We sat at one of the comfy, shaded, outdoor couches and practically devoured our usual three scoop order of beet salad, kale tabbouleh, and potatoes. You would think this combo is a no go, however, the flavors are explosive and pair perfectly together!
This cafe offers some of the most mouth watering, yet organic and healthy foods Santa Barbara has to offer. I could try to describe them but would not be able to do them justice, so I’ll just let you look at the pictures and drool. However, some of my favorites include the kale and barley salad, the tuna salad, and the roasted veggies. If you go, make sure to talk to the owner about the French potato salad (he really likes the French potato salad!) and he sure as hell as a good reason to, ITS AMAZING. They also have a great arrangement of coffee, pastries, and even ice cream. There is indoor seating at either a family style table, individual tables, or a bar and outdoor seating at a variety of large tables, couches, and chairs.
Overall, this place is a combination of the three perfect cafe elements: great service, great space, and great food. Don’t believe me? Go see for yourself! And be sure to comment below with your favorite cafe.
